For graduate programs, limited number of credits with the generic course numbers x01, x04, x05, and x06 may be approved by Graduate Council to be included in the required credits for a graduate program if the following conditions are met: 

1. The structure and content of the generic course have been documented, reviewed, and approved by the appropriate faculty body at the academic department and/or College level (for example, curriculum committee or full faculty depending on governance structure). 
2. Generic courses that will be required for the graduate program may be approved only when the structure and content of the generic course meets the definition listed in the University catalog and the guidance articulated by the Division of Graduate Studies. 
3. Outcomes of course:
   • If the generic course always achieves the same outcomes within the program requirements, these outcomes need to be articulated in the CourseLeaf program proposal. 
   • If the generic course does not always achieve the same outcomes, the process by which the academic department and/or College oversees and reviews the appropriateness of each offering of the generic course to determine whether it satisfies the program requirements must be articulated and documented in the CourseLeaf program proposal. 

When proposing a new program or a program revision, the proposer should upload a document in Courseleaf that addresses the 3 points listed above.
