Master's Graduation Checklist

Non-Thesis Master's Students

  • Review your DuckWeb record to make sure you have met the minimum university requirements.
  • Check with your department to ensure that you have met departmental degree requirements.
  • Check your unofficial transcript in DuckWeb for any missing grades from previous quarters. Contact your professors to submit change of grade requests if you see “X” or “N” grades on your transcript.
  • The following forms must be completed no less than one term prior to the term of graduation:
  • Register for credits in accordance with final term registration requirements.
  • Submit application for advanced degree by the published term deadline.
    • Note: It is highly recommended that you submit your application as early as possible. If you miss the priority deadline, you must contact your department to request a deadline override. After the final deadline, we cannot guarantee that your application will be accepted; you must Contact the Division of Graduate Studies to discuss your options for late application. 
    • Confirm submission: after a successful submission, you will receive an email notification from gradweb@uoregon.edu with the subject “Application for Advanced Degree." If you do not receive this email, please contact us to confirm whether your application has been received. 
  • Update your diploma address in DuckWeb. Diplomas are mailed by the Office of the Registrar 2-3 months following graduation.
  • Review commencement details if you plan to participate in any graduation ceremonies.
  • Monitor your UO email after the quarter ends for any time-sensitive requests or questions that might arise during graduation processing.

Thesis Master's Students

  • Confirm that you are completing a formal thesis and not a terminal project, capstone, synthesis paper, or other type of culminating project. View more information about thesis vs. project here. 
  • Review your DuckWeb record to make sure you have met the minimum university requirements.
  • Check with your department to ensure that you have met departmental degree requirements.
  • Check your unofficial transcript in DuckWeb for any missing grades from previous quarters. Contact your professors to submit change of grade requests if you see “X” or “N” grades on your transcript. Thesis credits will show as “I” grades until your final thesis is approved by the Division of Graduate Studies.
  • The following forms must be completed no less than one term prior to the term of graduation:
  • Register for credits in accordance with final term registration requirements.
  • Submit application for advanced degree by the second Friday of the quarter.
  • Update your diploma address in DuckWeb. Diplomas are mailed by the Office of the Registrar 2-3 months following graduation.
  • Review commencement details if you plan to participate in any graduation ceremonies.
  • Monitor your UO email after the quarter ends for any time-sensitive requests or questions that might arise during graduation processing.

Thesis

  • In final term, register for at least 3 UO credits, at least 1 credit of which must be 503 Thesis
  • Complete a total of at least 9 UO credits of 503 Thesis
  • Check with your committee members to make sure no one will be out of town, on sabbatical, etc. on your defense date OR when you might need signatures.
  • Create an account with ProQuest Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD) Administrator. We recommend creating your account before you submit your thesis. The beginning of the quarter you intend to graduate is a great time to complete this step and familiarize yourself with the site.
  • Review Thesis and Dissertation for formatting requirements and other helpful resources.
  • Obtain the necessary signatures on your Master's Thesis Approval Form.
  • Upload your thesis to the UO ETD Administrator.
  • Upload your Master's Thesis Approval Form to the administrative documents section of the UO ETD Administrator.
  • Submit your thesis and signed Master's Thesis Approval Form by 11:59 pm on the quarterly deadline.
  • Confirm submission: after a successful submission, the message “Your dissertation/thesis has been submitted” will appear. You will also receive an e-mail from “ETD Administrator” that you have submitted to the University of Oregon.
  • Monitor your email after submission for any requests for revisions. You will either receive an email notifying you the ETD was accepted or requesting formatting revisions. If you are asked to make revisions, the email will indicate a new deadline. Upload the revisions by the provided deadline.
