Syllabus Language Option Recommendation by the Title IX Coordinator

Faculty members are asked to consider using this brief statement, which also links to the broader language below, on your syllabus:

I am [a Designated Reporter/an Assisting Employee]. For information about my reporting obligations as an employee, please see Employee Reporting Obligations on the Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance (OICRC) websiteStudents experiencing sex- or gender-based discrimination, harassment or violence should call the 24-7 hotline 541-346-SAFE [7244] or visit safe.uoregon.edu for help. Students experiencing all forms of prohibited discrimination or harassment may contact the Dean of Students Office at 541-346-3216 or the non-confidential Title IX Coordinator/OICRC at 541-346-3123. Additional resources are available at investigations.uoregon.edu/how-get-support.

I am also a mandatory reporter of child abuse. Please find more information at Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Faculty and Instructors are strongly encouraged to put the following, more complete statement in their syllabi:

Begin by addressing your own reporter status. If you are uncertain about which category applies to you, look at the OICRC Employee Responsibilities webpage, ask your Unit Head, or contact Human Resources at 541-346-3159 or hrinfo@uoregon.edu.

If the Instructor is an Assisting EmployeeI am an Assisting Employee under the University’s Prohibited Discrimination and Retaliation Policy. As an Assisting Employee, I will direct students who disclose prohibited discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment or violence, to resources that can help and will only report the information shared to the university administration if the student requests that the information be reported (unless someone is in imminent risk of serious harm or a minor).

If the Instructor is a Designated ReporterI am a Designated Reporter under the University’s Prohibited Discrimination and Retaliation Policy. As a Designated Reporter, I will direct students who disclose prohibited discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment or violence, to resources that can help. I am also obligated to report the information shared with me to the University’s Title IX Coordinator/Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance.

If the Instructor is an Assisting Employee and a Campus Security Authority (CSA)I am an Assisting Employee under the University’s Prohibited Discrimination and Retaliation Policy. As an Assisting Employee, I will direct students who disclose prohibited discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment or violence, to resources that can help and will only report the information shared to the Title IX Coordinator/Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance if a student requests that the information be reported (unless someone is in imminent risk of serious harm or a minor). I am required to disclose de-identified information to the Clery Office for statistical purposes only.

If the course has teaching assistants (GEs), then statements should be included for them based on their status as reporter (i.e. this could be done by simply including the GEs in the statements above if they have the same status as the instructor or including a separate statement for each GE if their reporting obligation differs from the instructor’s).

Then Include Information About Reporting

Students who have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, sex or gender-based bullying, stalking, and/or sexual harassment may seek resources and help at safe.uoregon.edu. To get help by phone, students may also call either the non-confidential Title IX Coordinator/OICRC at 541-346-3123 or the Dean of Students Office  24-hour hotline at 541-346-SAFE [7244]. Students experiencing all forms of prohibited discrimination or harassment may find information and resources at investigations.uoregon.edu or contact the non-confidential Title IX Coordinator/OICRC at 541-346-3123 or the Dean of Students Office at 541-346-3216 for help. Specific details about confidentiality of information and reporting obligations of employees can be found at investigations.uoregon.edu/employee-responsibilities.
