The Information Security GE reports to the Director of Security Services and Information Assurance in Information Services. This position assists in the development, evaluation, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of network security and network forensics software facilities.

Security Forensics: This position will develop and assist with the evaluation and installation of security tools that will aid in the smooth operation of UO Information Technology systems. He/she will be responsible for developing data reporting, trending an analysis tools for network forensics. These duties will assist the Information Security Office (ISO) in evaluating current needs and developing future strategic plans to meet the increasing needs of campus related security tool development.

Attack/Exploit Trend Analysis and Detection: This position will assist staff in installing and developing tools to identify network flows and attack trends. This work will provide insightful information which will assist the ISO in supporting the academic mission of excellence and evaluate overall needs as the University works toward meeting its strategic priorities.

Incident Response Development: This person will assist with the development of our incident response system.

Web Presence and Outreach Development: The GE will work closely with the Director to develop a dynamic web presence that will facilitate outreach functions on a timely and efficient manner.

Other duties: As assigned by Information Security Office staff.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Working knowledge of Unix systems.
  • Must have experience as a Unix systems programmer and have performed Unix systems support in a production or academic environment.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP internal operations and routing protocols.
  • Programming experience in Python, C/C++, PERL or another advanced scripting language.

Graduate students pursuing any master’s or doctoral degree may apply.

  • Unix Systems Internals
