McNair Scholars Graduate Admission

The Graduate School is committed to providing support for the McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. When a McNair Scholar applies for graduate admission to the University of Oregon, they are eligible to apply for a fee waiver of the graduate application fee.

All fee waivers are requested and approved through the online Graduate School application in GradWeb and are subject to availability. Applicants answer a series of questions on the initial application screen to initiate the process of applying for a fee waiver. If an applicant is eligible to apply for a fee waiver, the questionnaire will prompt them to provide further documentation. For McNair Scholars, a signed letter from the McNair Director at your undergraduate institution is the required documentation.

The fee waiver approval process is not automated. All fee waiver requests are reviewed by Graduate School staff and are typically processed within 5 business days after submission of required documentation. Fee waiver requests are processed in the order received.  A payment page indicates that a fee waiver has been denied, not yet processed or the need-based quota has been met.

Please note: documentation must be submitted 10 business days prior to the department's application deadline. Late requests will be automatically denied.

An unlimited number of application fee waivers are available to qualified McNair Scholars but are not granted until the following steps are completed:

  • Applicant has submitted all required fee waiver documentation at least 10 business days prior to the department's application deadline.
    AND
  • Applicant fee waiver request has been reviewed and approved as eligible by the Graduate School.

Applicants are able to submit required documentation at two points in the application:

      1. Upon beginning an application applicants can upload required fee waiver documentation by clicking “Upload Now."

        OR

      2. On the final payment page of the application applicants can upload required fee waiver documentation by clicking “Upload Now.” This option appears when applicants have selected “Upload Later” at the beginning of the application.

NOTE: If you apply but do not provide the necessary documentation, you will be prompted to pay the Graduate School application fee.

For questions about the fee waiver process, please contact the Graduate School at gradsch@uoregon.edu or 541-346-5129.

The University of Oregon does not offer graduate tuition remission to McNair Scholars. However, after you have received an acceptance letter from the UO Admissions office, you may contact Tori Byington at byington@uoregon.edu to explore funding options.
