Complete Withdrawal from the Term

This page outlines the process for withdrawing from all classes for a given term.

Students are both academically and financially responsible for all classes in which they register until they withdraw via DuckWeb. Students who withdraw are no longer able to use university services to which they previously had access.

Withdrawal procedures and information on tuition refund policies are available on the Office of the Registrar website

Please note that you must apply for academic on-leave with the Division of Graduate Studies if you plan to return to your graduate program at any time in the future.

Additional Steps for Graduate Employees

GEs must be enrolled as full-time students, therefore a GE who does a complete withdrawal is no longer eligible to be a GE for that term.

  1. If you are NOT applying for Family/Medical Leave, submit a formal letter of resignation to the hiring unit.
    • This letter should include the effective date of resignation. This will become the stop-date on the ePRF.
  2. When you withdraw from classes using DuckWeb:
    • An alert message will appear that reads, “STOP…Our records indicate that your student status does not permit you to continue with this withdrawal process on DuckWeb” and the student will be informed that they must consult with Division of Graduate Studies staff.
    • If the complete withdrawal is approved, an assessment will be done to determine whether the GE will keep the tuition waiver and insurance for the term.
      • This assessment is based on how many hours of work the GE has completed thus far in the term.
      • If it is determined that the student is no longer eligible for the GE tuition waiver, they will be subject to regular resident or non-resident graduate tuition rates and withdrawal penalties will apply as outlined by the Office of the Registrar refund schedules.
      • If it is determined that the student is eligible to retain the GE tuition waiver, the withdrawal penalties will be applied to the incidental fee only.
