Workshop Planning 501: An Interview with Bryce Peake and Rupa Pillai

UO Grad Students Bryce Peake and Rupa Pillai

It seemed rather simple at first...

"You just have a room, get some cookies, and you've got yourself a colloquium."

But--like a lot of projects in graduate school--the reality proved to be a bit more complicated.

"That snowball of paperwork is just... wow."

What began as a casual conversation quickly grew to involve eight funding partners, students from at least twenty-five academic programs, and visiting scholars from outside institutions. Doctoral students Rupa Pillai (Anthropology) and Bryce Peake (SOJC) recount how they came up with the idea to plan and host a workshop, weathered the storm of organization, and wound up having one of their most rewarding experiences in graduate school.
