Orlando Hawkins

Orlando Hawkins

Orlando is a first-year Ph.D. student in the philosophy program.

He is excited and honored to have been a recipient of the Raymund Fellowship, and considers this as a great and valuable opportunity to continue his educational career.

Orlando has a wide range of interest philosophically, with his interesting spanning across a variety of philosophical areas such as: existentialism, nihilism, philosophy of race, feminist philosophy, ethics, and social and political philosophy.

He hopes to contribute to the way in which we talk about race and racism by exploring the existential impacts racism has on people.

Prior to attending the University of Oregon, Orlando received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the University of La Verne; a small private school in Southern California.

After taking two years off, he decided to pursue a Master’s degree at the New School for Social Research in New York City, subsequently receiving his Master's degree in 2018.

Once he obtains his Ph.D., Orlando hopes to continue to pursue his philosophical interest by getting the opportunity to teach, where he can share his passion and knowledge with the next generation of students.
