There are two types of Bell Loan available. Each has its own conditions and application:

BELL LOAN OPTION FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

Loan Terms and Conditions:

The Jesse M. Bell Graduate Loan is a short-term loan available to graduate students of high academic standing to be used in the pursuit of their graduate studies at UO. Bell loans can be made up to a maximum of $500. Repayment is due within 30, 60, or 90 days according to the conditions of the individual loan. A service charge of $8 per loan will be charged to the student account. Loans that are not paid according to these terms and conditions are subject to the University of Oregon Revolving Charge Account Terms and Conditions. Loan approval authority is jointly designated to the Associate Dean of the Graduate School and the Associate Director for Student Financial Services in the Business Affairs Office.

To Apply:

Download, print, and complete the application form (Form A). Your signed form can be submitted to the Graduate School in person or as a scanned PDF by email to marcia@uoregon.edu.

OPTION FOR GEs WHO ANTICIPATE BEING PAID LATE

The Jesse M. Bell Graduate Loan is available to any GE who has completed and submitted their notice of appointment AND all required paperwork (e.g., I-9, W-4) by the first day of the month in which the appointment begins but who anticipate that their paycheck will not be processed by the last day of that month.

In this case, a Jesse M. Bell Graduate Loan can be made up to the estimated value of your gross pay for that first month (not to exceed $1,000). Repayment is due within 30, 60, or 90 days according to the conditions of the individual loan. The service charge of $8 per loan will be waived.

To apply for the Bell Loan under these circumstances:

1.       Download, print, and complete the application form (Form B).

2.       Photocopy or scan your signed notice of GE appointment for the relevant term.

3.       Submit your completed application form and copy of your signed notice of appointment to the Graduate School in person or as scanned PDFs attached to an email to marcia@uoregon.edu.
