Graduate School Exit Survey

All master's and doctoral students are asked to complete the Graduate School Exit Survey when they apply for graduation online. These reports present the findings of the Exit Survey over the past several academic years.

The Graduate School Exit Survey is a questionnaire consisting of 28 questions, each falling into one of four categories: degree and funding/support information; program evaluation; post graduate plans; and demographic information. The survey is built in to the online application for degree process in Gradweb. View the exit survey questions.

Reporting Format

Since 2006-2007, the Graduate School has compiled the results in a multi-year survey report, rather than by individual academic year. The most current multi-year report, with all responses grouped by level (master's vs. doctoral), is available below. Individual annual reports, 1999-2000 through 2005-2006, are available upon request. Each academic year reported includes fall, winter, spring and summer.

Respondents & Response Rate

Although we maintain a response rate of about 98%,  please pay close attention to the number of students who answered each question, especially when examining the results by area of study (e.g., the humanities) or by program (e.g., Landscape Architecture).

It is important to note that a small number of respondents may limit the generalizations that can be made from the data. Also, because the survey is anonymous, data are self-reported and thus subject to the occasional coding error (invalid responses are treated as missing). Additionally, opinion-based data are not reported when the number of respondents is too low to maintain anonymity.
