A Welcome from the Deans...
It is our pleasure to welcome you to our academic community at the University of Oregon. Our institution offers outstanding graduate programs of national and international reputation to approximately 4,000 students from across the United States and eighty-one other countries.
To ease the transition into your new graduate program, a Graduate Student Orientation seminar for new students is held in September just before the start of fall term. The seminar provides an introduction to the following important aspects of graduate student life: research via the UO libraries and computing services, the Graduate School's services, policies, and graduation requirements, and a variety of graduate student resources and services. You'll also receive valuable advice from faculty and other graduate students on general survival strategies.
Your department may conduct its own orientation; request time and location from your department office.
The important academic resources of the campus, especially the UO Libraries and Information Services, are hubs of activity for graduate students. We encourage you to take advantage of these and other campus facilities as you enhance your intellectual development and further your academic and professional goals.
We look forward to meeting you in the days and months ahead. Please do not hesitate to call or visit the Graduate School if you have questions or special concerns.
