FULL-TIME EQUIVALENCY (FTE)
For GTFs, 1.0 FTE is equivalent to a maximum of 438 hours per term. GTF appointments, however are limited to fewer hours. The minimum allowable GTF appointment is .20 FTE for a full term and the maximum is. 49 FTE per term. Any exceptions to the .49 FTE limit must be approved by the Dean of the Graduate School and few are granted. See Article 21, Salary, in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
To determine the maximum number of hours per term a GTF can be expected to work, multiply the position's actual FTE by 438 (the hours per term at 1.0 FTE). For example, .49 x 438= 215. This means that at .49 FTE, a GTF can be expected to work a maximum of 215 hours. Here are some other FTE-to-hours calculations:
FULL-TIME EQUIVALENCY (FTE)
| FTE | Hours per Term | Hours per Week (11 weeks in a term) |
|---|---|---|
| .20 | 88 | 8 |
| .25 | 110 | 10 |
| .30 | 131 | 12 |
| .35 | 153 | 14 |
| .40 | 175 | 16 |
| .49 | 215 | 19 |
