Degree Seeking Graduate Classifications

• Conditional Master's:
  • Conditional master's status indicates that admission to the master's program has been granted with specific conditions required by the department, as stated in the letter of admission. Upon satisfaction of the stated conditions, the student should submit a change of classification form to the department requesting an update to regular master's status. A conditionally accepted student must achieve regular master's status before the completion of 36 credits of graduate course work.

• Master's:
  • Master's status indicates admission to the master's program with no special conditions required.

• Conditional Doctoral:
  • Conditional doctoral status indicates that admission to the doctoral program has been granted with specific conditions required by the department as stated in the letter of admission. Upon satisfaction of stated conditions, the student should submit a change of classification form to the department requesting an update to regular doctoral status.

• Doctoral:
  • Doctoral status indicates admission to the doctoral program with no special conditions required.

Admitted Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Classifications

The following classifications refer to graduate students who hold at least an accredited four year bachelors degree and are seeking to pursue graduate course work for purposes other than a receiving a graduate degree. Students in the following non-degree seeking classifications are not eligible for financial aid or graduate teaching fellowships.

• Post-Baccalaureate Graduate (PBGR):
  • This status indicates a student who is admitted to the university as a non-degree seeking graduate level student with a major of "Unclassified". PBGRs are permitted to enroll as a full or part-time student and are subject to regular graduate tuition assessment rates and Oregon Residency Rules. A maximum of 15 credits taken as a PBGR may be eligible for transfer into a master's program.
  • Note: There is also a Post-Baccalaureate Non-Graduate status for students wishing to pursue a second bachelors degree taking only undergraduate coursework. See information provided by the Office of Admissions.

• Pre-Master's (V):
  • The pre-master's status is for students who are admitted to a department to pursue only an official UO graduate certificate.
  • It is also the appropriate status for non-degree seeking international students enrolled in an official UO Exchange Program.

• Post-Master's (W):
  • The post-master's status is for students who hold a relevant master's degree and are admitted to a department to pursue an official UO graduate certificate.

• Post-Doctoral (Z):
  • The post-doctoral status is for students who hold a doctoral degree, have post- doctoral funding and wish to pursue graduate level coursework as a non-degree seeking graduate student.

Non-Admitted Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Classifications

• Non-Admitted Graduate (NG) -- Community Education Program (CEP) :
  • The university permits students who hold an accredited bachelors degree to enroll as non-admitted students to take courses during the academic year on a limited basis at a special tuition rate. Credits earned in this classification are recorded on the student's UO transcript. Credits earned as a CEP student are subject to the Transfer of Graduate Credit policies of the Graduate School.

• Non-Admitted Graduate (NG) -- Summer Session:
  • The university permits students to enroll as non-admitted graduate students to take courses during the summer session. Non-admitted summer students are assessed regular summer tuition and are permitted to register as full time students. Credits earned in these classifications are recorded on the student's UO transcript and are subject to the Transfer of Graduate Credit policies of the Graduate School.
